Rapper NBA YoungBoy, whose real name is Kentrell Gaulden, found himself involved in a police incident while riding in a vehicle on Interstate 15, where authorities discovered illicit drugs. Despite the circumstances, Gaulden was neither arrested nor charged in relation to the incident.
According to Utah Highway Patrol (UHP) Sgt. Mike Alexander, the trooper had sufficient probable cause to conduct a search of the vehicle. Two individuals—a male driver and a female passenger—asserted ownership of the drugs that were discovered.
In discussions with the Utah County Attorney’s Office, authorities determined that charges for possession of the illicit substances would likely be filed against the driver and passenger, rather than Gaulden. Lt. Alexander also noted that while cash was located in the vehicle, investigators did not establish a link between the money and the drugs.
The identities of the driver and passenger have not been released. Gaulden, 26, has been a resident of Utah and has previously encountered legal challenges within the state, including a prescription drug fraud case in 2024 that resulted in a $25,000 fine, as well as serving prison time for possession of a firearm as a felon.
Despite his past legal troubles, Sgt. Alexander stated that, at this moment, he is unaware of any charges that might be directed at Gaulden as a result of this incident. This development highlights the complexities of legal situations involving individuals with prior convictions, while also emphasizing the investigative process in determining accountability.
