A series of minor earthquakes was reported in and around Nausori Town, Fiji, starting from the evening of February 14 through the early hours of February 15, according to Fiji Seismology. The most significant event occurred at 9:09 PM, registering a magnitude of 3.3 at a depth of 11 kilometers, approximately 8 kilometers northwest of Nausori Town. Residents along the Suva–Nausori corridor felt this tremor.
Earlier that evening, another earthquake, measuring 2.8 in magnitude, was detected at 7:11 PM about 9 kilometers north of Nausori Town, also at a depth of 11 kilometers. This quake, too, was felt by residents along the same corridor and did not trigger any tsunami alerts. Additionally, a smaller event occurred at 5:28 PM, measuring 2.5 at a depth of 9 kilometers and located roughly 3 kilometers east-northeast of Nakini village, eliciting similar responses from the community.
Following these notable quakes, several smaller tremors were recorded, including a magnitude 1.4 at 10:09 PM, a magnitude 1.2 at 12:29 AM, and a magnitude 1.1 at 1:10 AM the next day. All of these occurred just northwest of Nausori Town, at shallow depths ranging from 6 to 7 kilometers.
Authorities have reassured the public that none of these seismic events pose an immediate tsunami threat. They encourage residents to remain calm and stay informed through official channels regarding any further seismic activity. The community’s preparedness and resilience in the face of such natural occurrences highlight their ability to manage anxiety and ensure safety during these events.
