In honor of his contributions to the nation, a state funeral is being planned, with more details set to be revealed later this week. Scotty was a prominent figure in Nauru’s politics, dedicating over thirty years to public service. He began his parliamentary career in 1983, representing several constituencies, including Anabar, Ijuw, and Anibare.

Scotty served as Nauru’s president on two separate occasions: from May to August 2003 and from June 2004 until December 2007. His leadership was highlighted by a focus on economic reforms to address the nation’s financial challenges. Notably, he was the first president in Nauru’s history to separate the roles of president and foreign minister.

Throughout his lengthy career, he also held multiple terms as Speaker of Parliament between 2000 and 2011, as well as various ministerial positions, including those overseeing Health and Justice. Scotty is remembered for his dedication to the people of Nauru, leaving behind a wife and seven children.
