Telecom Fiji is set to enhance connectivity in the Western Division with the launch of the Nakorokula–Tavua Fibre Project. This significant initiative aims to provide faster and more reliable internet access to homes, schools, businesses, and essential services in the region.
Chief Executive Charles Goundar stressed the project’s importance in promoting education, supporting small businesses, and improving emergency response capabilities, while also addressing the everyday digital needs of residents. The project involves upgrading outdated and damaged fibre lines along the route, which will offer households and businesses improved connectivity and security.
Goundar noted that this upgrade could significantly enhance developmental opportunities, especially within the Tavua–Rakiraki corridor, which has been identified as a key area for growth and investment. The project is expected to enable entrepreneurs, farmers, tourism operators, and government services to operate more efficiently and broaden their reach.
Set to kick off in mid-November and conclude by May of next year, the initiative aims to minimize service disruptions and improve online access to various sectors including education, healthcare, and government services. Additionally, the new fibre link will empower businesses to utilize modern digital tools and cloud services more effectively, thereby enhancing customer service.
Telecom Fiji’s dedication to improving telecommunications infrastructure aligns with past efforts to expand digital connectivity, such as the successful Savusavu to Labasa Fibre Project on Vanua Levu. These initiatives signal a positive step towards a more connected future in Fiji, encouraging economic growth and empowering local communities through improved access to digital resources.
