Nadi Sports Club delivered a stellar performance to clinch the Som Padyachi Cup, defeating the South Seas Club of Lautoka with a score of 9–5 in an exhilarating snooker competition marked by exceptional skill, teamwork, and discipline.
The home team quickly asserted their dominance with Rimal Narayan and Shivan Goundar winning the opening set, setting a victorious tone for the evening. This momentum carried on as David Reddy and Vineel Nand pushed Nadi’s lead to 4–0, putting the Lautoka players under immediate pressure.
When needed most, captain Kailash Goundar rose to the occasion, securing an additional frame that solidified Nadi’s control of the match. Highlighting the team’s prowess, Fiji’s top-ranked snooker player, Sahil Prasad, outmatched Esala Talebula in a commanding display, further extending Nadi’s advantage.
Despite South Seas Club managing to secure a frame through Nitesh Chand, narrowing the score to 5–1, Nadi’s determination proved overwhelming. The hosts wrapped up their victory with solid contributions from Mahendra Deo and Jashwin Nair, alongside a successful performance from Naushad Khan, ensuring the prestigious Som Padyachi Cup remained in their possession.
After the match, captain Kailash Goundar credited the team’s victory to their unity and strong support system. He expressed heartfelt thanks to every player and their families for their unwavering encouragement, stating, “The teamwork, unity, and commitment shown by the boys made this achievement possible.” Goundar also honored Som ‘Uncle’ Padyachi, the club president and former Fiji snooker champion, whose inspirational presence motivated the players throughout the tournament.
The team also extended gratitude to supporter Eddie for his contributions towards the celebratory gathering after the match. They stressed the importance of collective effort, acknowledging all members—even those who didn’t compete in key matches—emphasizing that this victory belongs to the entire club.
Looking ahead, Nadi Sports Club will shift its focus to the Northwest Snooker League, eagerly inviting future challengers interested in facing the new Som Padyachi Cup champions. This success not only marks a victory but also celebrates the camaraderie, sportsmanship, and shared passion for the game of snooker among the members.
