Myles Garrett Aims for Historic Sack Record Ahead of Browns-Raiders Showdown

The Cleveland Browns find themselves in a challenging situation as the 2025 NFL season approaches its conclusion. With a record of 2-8 heading into Week 12, they are presently among the league’s struggling teams. However, the team boasts exceptional talent, particularly in edge rusher Myles Garrett, who recently etched his name into NFL history.

In a standout performance during Week 11, Garrett notched four sacks against the Baltimore Ravens, surpassing the milestone of 12 sacks for the season. This remarkable feat marks his sixth consecutive season with over 12 sacks, breaking the previous record held by the legendary Lawrence Taylor, who achieved this in five seasons. Taylor acknowledged Garrett’s accomplishment on social media, expressing admiration for Garrett’s consistent performance and impact on the game. He remarked, “Ton of respect for how this dude goes about his business. He’s been doing it on another level for a long time now… there’s only so many who truly alter game plans and keep the other side up @ night. Keep doing your thing Myles !!!!”

Garrett, at age 29, has established himself as one of the league’s premier pass rushers. Throughout his career, he has had only two seasons where he recorded fewer than 12 sacks. Currently, he has tallied 15 sacks this season with seven more games remaining on the schedule, raising the possibility of him challenging the all-time single-season sack record of 22.5 set by Michael Strahan.

To potentially break the record, Garrett will need a couple more extraordinary performances. This season, he has already demonstrated his capabilities with two games featuring three or more sacks. His first was a five-sack performance against the New England Patriots in Week 8, despite a loss, and he followed this up with his four sacks against the Ravens.

Garrett’s ability to deliver in high-pressure situations suggests he may very well inch closer to the record. As the Browns prepare for their matchup against the Raiders, set for 4:05 PM ET on Sunday, all eyes will be on Garrett to see if he can further cement his legacy and potentially break Strahan’s long-standing record. The excitement surrounding Garrett’s ongoing performances keeps fans hopeful for brighter days ahead for both him and the Browns.
