Morocco Tightens AFCON Prep Under Regragui as Stars Miss Friendlies

Morocco’s national football team completed its final training session on Wednesday evening before traveling to Tangier, where they will compete in friendly matches against Mozambique and Uganda. Taking advantage of the November FIFA international window, the hosts of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations are focused on refining their squad ahead of the tournament.

Coach Walid Regragui and his technical team have dedicated their training to enhancing team cohesion and implementing tactical strategies for the two upcoming fixtures. Regragui emphasized Morocco’s aim to present a well-organized presence at the Africa Cup, stating, “We will show Africa that Morocco has a high level of organization and staff. We will have a national union, and outside there will be celebrations, everyone together.”

The Atlas Lions are set to face Mozambique on Friday and Uganda on November 18, with both matches taking place at the Grand Stade de Tanger. However, the team will be missing key players due to injuries. Notably, international star Achraf Hakimi, who plays for Paris Saint-Germain, is sidelined with a serious injury sustained during a UEFA Champions League match. Defender Nayef Aguerd, currently with Olympique de Marseille, will also miss the games due to injury.

The Africa Cup of Nations 2025 is scheduled to kick off on December 21, with the final match set for January 18, 2026. Morocco’s strategic preparations, including these friendly matches, reflect their commitment to creating a cohesive and competitive team ready to perform at the continental level. This period of development offers a promising outlook for the Atlas Lions as they aim to make a strong impact in the upcoming tournament.
