In observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. federal holiday, local offices and services in the Historic Triangle area will operate on modified schedules. James City County has announced that its offices, including libraries, will be closed on January 19. However, facilities such as the James City County Recreation Center and the Abram Frink Jr. Community Center will remain open, as will all county parks throughout the year. Park Stores and Guest Services Offices will not operate on this holiday, but the Jolly Pond Road and Toano Convenience Centers will remain open. The Tewning Road Convenience Center will be closed on Mondays, while the Garbage Transfer Station operates as usual.

Meanwhile, in Poquoson, all non-emergency city offices will also be closed for the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. The City of Williamsburg has similarly announced that all offices, including those located at the Municipal Building and the Quarterpath Recreation Center, will be shut on January 19. However, Waller Mill Park will continue its normal hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Residents can expect regular garbage and recycling collection on Monday and Tuesday, and for any water emergencies after hours or during weekends, they are advised to call 757-220-2331. City payments can be made electronically or dropped in a 24-hour dropbox, but payments made on the holiday will not be processed until the following day.

York County has also indicated that its government offices, courts, the York-Poquoson Social Services, the Virginia Cooperative Extension, and libraries will close in observance of the holiday. However, the Transfer Station, Recycling Dropoff, and VPPSA Compost Facility will remain accessible, although their administrative offices will be closed. Garbage and recycling services will continue as scheduled, and residents are reminded to have their containers out by 7 a.m. on collection days.

This coordinated effort among the local governments highlights a community commitment to honoring Martin Luther King Jr. while providing essential services to residents.
