In a video statement released on Tuesday, Oz criticized a corrective plan submitted by Minnesota’s administration, labeling it as “deeply insufficient.” He emphasized that if the state does not effectively address fraud, further payment withholding will occur until satisfactory reforms are made. “This ensures that Minnesotans who are truly in need and eligible for benefits can access Medicaid services,” he stated.
Oz’s communications included details of ongoing investigations that have exposed “widespread fraud, waste, and abuse.” These inquiries uncovered various deceptive practices, including billing for services that were not provided, exaggerating service levels not backed by documentation, and exploiting vulnerable Medicaid beneficiaries for financial gain. The 14 Minnesota programs in question account for a significant annual expenditure of $3.75 billion from both federal and state taxpayer resources. Additionally, the Trump administration has announced plans to suspend billions in federal funding for social services programs not only in Minnesota but across four other states, responding to persistent issues of fraud. This freeze will affect key programs such as Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, the Child Care Development Fund, and grants supporting social services primarily aimed at assisting children.
