Mike McDaniel has emerged as one of the most sought-after head coaching candidates following his recent departure from the Miami Dolphins. Reports indicate that McDaniel is set to interview for several positions, including those with the Cleveland Browns, Atlanta Falcons, Tennessee Titans, and Baltimore Ravens. Tom Pelissero from NFL Network mentioned on Monday that McDaniel’s interview with the Browns is scheduled, with further discussions regarding the offensive coordinator role with the Lions taking place on Tuesday.

Cleveland is on the lookout for a new head coach after parting ways with Kevin Stefanski on January 5, following a disappointing 5-12 season in 2025. This marked the Browns’ second straight year of struggles, finishing with a significant number of losses despite a strong defensive showing. The team ranked fourth in the league, allowing just 283.6 yards per game, largely thanks to Myles Garrett’s standout performance, which included a record-setting 23 sacks in a single season.

Given the Browns’ impressive defensive capabilities, it is logical for them to pursue an offensive-minded coach like McDaniel. In 2025, the Browns faced challenges under center, utilizing three different quarterbacks, all of whom struggled to complete passes at a rate above 60 percent. Collectively, Joe Flacco, Dillon Gabriel, and Shedeur Sanders managed only 2,807 passing yards, 16 touchdowns, and 18 interceptions. Although young talents like running back Quinshon Judkins and tight end Harold Fannin Jr. displayed potential, the team’s overall scoring average dipped to just 16.4 points per game.

During McDaniel’s last season with the Dolphins, the team finished with a 7-10 record but demonstrated significant offensive prowess earlier in his tenure. His ability to galvanize offensive production makes him an attractive candidate, not only for the Browns but for other teams looking to enhance their scoring capabilities. With promising interviews ahead, McDaniel’s future in the NFL coaching landscape appears bright.
