Marcus Moller, a 7-foot-3 center who recently signed with the Michigan basketball program, is stepping away from the sport and his international club, Unicaja Malaga, due to health concerns. The Danish player has been diagnosed with testicular cancer and is currently back in Denmark undergoing medical treatment.

Unicaja Malaga issued a statement on Friday emphasizing that Moller’s health and well-being take precedence, and both the club and player have agreed to focus entirely on his recovery. “From Unicaja Baloncesto, we want to send Marcus all our love, support, and strength during this time. We are confident that he will face this challenge with the courage and determination that have always characterized him,” the statement read.

The Michigan basketball program also expressed their support for Moller, reassuring him that he’s not alone in this battle. “We want Marcus to know that he will not face this alone, as so many people are thinking of him and sending him strength every single day. While he focuses on his health and recovery, we truly look forward to having Marcus with us in Ann Arbor this summer and are beyond excited for his future as a Wolverine,” a statement from the program noted.

Moller had committed to Michigan in July and officially signed with the university in November, joining a promising four-man recruiting class ranked No. 14 nationally by the 247Sports composite, which includes forwards Quinn Costello and Malachi Brown, as well as guard Joseph Hartman.

The basketball community is rallying around Moller during this challenging time, showcasing the supportive network that surrounds athletes at both local and international levels.
