Snowfall across Massachusetts continues to impact the region, with significant accumulation already reported and further precipitation expected on Sunday. Many towns have recorded over four inches of snow, particularly in Central and Western Massachusetts, where snowfall persisted into the late afternoon hours on Saturday. A Winter Weather Advisory was in effect for Hampden County and Middlesex County until 5 p.m. Saturday, extending until 7 p.m. for Berkshire County.

Looking ahead, the National Weather Service anticipates a brief lull in precipitation overnight, followed by a return of more intense snowfall on Sunday. A new Winter Weather Advisory will take effect from 10 a.m. Sunday until 4 a.m. Monday, affecting Boston, Cape Cod & the Islands, and areas across Worcester and much of Central Massachusetts. Snowfall is predicted to start around 8 a.m. Sunday, continuing throughout the night with expected accumulations of 2 to 4 inches in Boston, 1 to 3 inches on Cape Cod and the Islands, and an additional 1 to 3 inches in Worcester.

The timing of the snowfall coincides with the New England Patriots’ playoff game against the Houston Texans, scheduled for a 3 p.m. kickoff. According to forecasts, regions in the southeastern part of the state, including Foxborough, might experience a snowfall rate of 1 to 1.5 inches per hour during the game, potentially affecting travel and attendance.

Sunday’s weather will feature high temperatures reaching 38 degrees in Boston, 36 degrees in Worcester and Springfield, and dropping to around 31 degrees in Pittsfield, with colder temperatures anticipated in the evening. The snowfall is expected to taper off by 7 a.m. Monday, after which an arctic cold front will bring significantly lower temperatures across the region. Boston will experience sunny skies on Monday, but the low is expected to plummet to 17 degrees, with Worcester and Springfield forecasted to dip even further to a chilling 13 degrees.

As the region braces for the wintery weather, the snowfall provides not only a picturesque landscape but also the reminder of the resilience and readiness of local communities and services to manage snowy conditions.
