INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — March has made its entrance with notably colder temperatures than usual. As the new month begins, residents can expect some snow early Monday morning, transitioning into a wetter weather pattern throughout the week.
On Monday morning, skies will be mostly cloudy, shifting to partly cloudy as the day progresses, with high temperatures reaching the low 40s. Later in the evening, conditions will remain cloudy as a mix of snow and sleet is forecasted to start in the early hours. South central Indiana may experience a notable ice or sleet line, with overnight lows dipping into the upper 20s.
For Tuesday, snow is anticipated primarily during the morning hours, particularly for areas south of Interstate 70, where light sleet or ice could mix in. Precipitation is expected to taper off by mid-morning, leaving mostly cloudy skies for the remainder of the day, with highs again in the low 40s.
Snow accumulation from this early March storm is expected to be minimal, with most areas receiving just a trace up to 1 inch. Some isolated locations may see up to 2 inches of snow.
Looking ahead, the 7-day forecast indicates a shift toward significantly wetter conditions, with predictions of over 3 inches of rainfall throughout the week. A stalled front is likely to bring daily chances of rain starting Tuesday and lasting into the weekend. As warmer air moves in by the week’s end, the possibility of thunderstorms will also increase, although no severe weather alerts are currently in effect for central Indiana. Residents are encouraged to stay aware of weather updates as the week progresses.
