LSU’s upcoming baseball season will kick off with Casan Evans taking the mound as the starting pitcher. Coach Jay Johnson, typically tight-lipped about pitching rotations, revealed the weekend lineup on Thursday, opening the season with Evans, who had an impressive freshman year as part of the 2025 national championship team.

Evans finished last season with a standout 5-1 record, boasting a remarkable 2.05 ERA and striking out 71 batters over 52.2 innings. He also led the team with seven saves, establishing himself as a key player for the Tigers.

Joining him in the rotation are two right-handed pitchers. Kansas transfer Cooper Moore will take the mound on Saturday, following his notable performance as a Second-Team All-Big 12 selection while at Kansas, where he achieved a 7-3 record with a 3.96 ERA and struck out 85 batters in 88.2 innings pitched.

The Sunday game will feature sophomore William Schmidt, who had a perfect record of 7-0 during his freshman season, primarily pitching during midweek games. Schmidt’s high-velocity fastball and effective breaking ball make him a formidable opponent.

The season opener is scheduled for Friday at 2:00 PM from Alex Box Stadium, while Saturday and Sunday games will both start at 1:00 PM. Fans can catch all the action on ESPN+. As LSU looks to build on its championship legacy, this season promises to showcase the talent and potential of its pitching staff.
