A winter storm warning is in effect as severe weather conditions are expected to impact the Louisville area through Tuesday morning. Residents can anticipate significant snowfall and dangerously cold temperatures in the coming days.

Meteorologists predict that snow will begin around midday Saturday, worsening travel conditions throughout the afternoon and evening. Heavy snow is forecasted to continue into the night, with accumulations of 4-6 inches likely. Areas south of the Kentucky Parkways may experience a mix of sleet and freezing rain during this time, while those further north will mainly see snow.

The winter storm is expected to remain in effect into Sunday, bringing more heavy snow to the region. Areas that remain predominantly snow will accumulate an additional 6-12 inches. As the storm progresses, a change to light snow is expected Sunday night. Once the storm passes, the focus will shift to the extreme cold that follows, with temperatures plummeting below zero in many areas by Monday morning.

Monday night is anticipated to be particularly frigid, with temperatures dropping to near or below zero, especially in regions with significant snow coverage. Wind chills could reach dangerous levels, measuring 15 to 20 degrees below zero, lasting into Tuesday morning.

A brief respite may come mid-week, as another chance for light snow could arise Wednesday night, accompanied by another wave of cold air.

Residents are urged to remain cautious, stay warm, and follow updates from the WAVE Storm Tracking Team as the situation evolves.
