Lexie Hull and Caitlin Clark Banter Highlights a Resilient Fever Season

Lexie Hull recently playfully responded to her Indiana Fever teammate Caitlin Clark’s light-hearted jab about their tanning habits in an interview with PEOPLE. During media day earlier this year, Clark humorously commented on a photo featuring Hull and Sophie Cunningham, saying, “Little less tanning. A little more bball ladies,” which sparked friendly banter between the teammates.

At the Glamour Women of the Year event, Hull turned the tables, teasing that Clark “could probably use a little sun herself.” She mentioned that Clark often jokes about their tanning, adding, “It’s all in good fun.” Hull, along with Cunningham, did not hesitate to poke back at Clark after her initial remark.

Despite facing a tumultuous season plagued by injuries—where both Clark and Cunningham were sidelined prior to the postseason—the Fever managed to surprise critics by nearly defeating the eventual champions, the Las Vegas Aces, in a competitive semifinal matchup. Hull reflected on the season, stating, “This year was definitely a year of growth. We faced a lot of adversity with injuries — at one point, almost half our roster was out — but that helped us grow closer.”

Expressing gratitude for Clark’s influence on her journey, Hull remarked, “She’s one of my best friends on the team, and it’s been amazing growing together and chasing the same goals.” Their bond is evident, as Hull emphasized the natural connection they share, striking a balance between competitiveness in practice and joy during play.

Outside of basketball, Hull is also navigating the exciting journey of planning her wedding to fiancé Will Matthiessen. Although time constraints due to their busy schedules have made detailed planning a challenge, Hull is enjoying the experience. She confirmed that many of her Fever teammates would be included in the celebration, sharing, “They’ll definitely be at the wedding, but we’ll see about the bridal party lineup.”

The camaraderie and support within the Fever team, especially highlighted by Hull and Clark’s friendship, illustrate the positive spirit that can emerge even in challenging circumstances.
