A popular leak circulating online suggests the headline free game for April’s PS Plus Essential lineup will be 2023’s Soulslike action-RPG Lords of the Fallen, with an official announcement and release window expected in the first week of the month.

The claim comes from a well-known games leaker using the handle Bilibil-kun, who posted on the GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit that Sony will confirm the April PS Plus slate on April 1 and that Lords of the Fallen will become available to download for PS Plus Essential subscribers from April 7. The leak has been widely shared by members of PlayStation communities ahead of Sony’s usual monthly reveal cadence.

PS Plus Essential members receive a rotating set of free games each month; subscribers must redeem them during the month they are offered, after which the titles remain available to download and play while the subscription is active. If the leak proves accurate, Lords of the Fallen — a third-person, Soulslike successor to the 2014 original — would be the marquee title available to all Essential-tier subscribers for April.

Reaction to the tip on Reddit was mixed. Some users treated the leak as effectively an early announcement — “At this point a Bilibil-kun leak is basically an early announcement,” one commenter wrote — while others warned prospective players about the game’s grind and trophy chase. “As someone who loved this game and got the platinum, don't do the platinum. Just don't,” read one post. Others described it as “pretty solid” or criticised technical issues and limited enemy variety, calling the experience “mid” and “janky.”

Lords of the Fallen launched in 2023 as a modern reinvention of the series and was widely discussed for its ambitious world-building and Soulsborne-style combat when it released on PC and current-gen consoles. Player impressions since then have varied, with some praising its scale and combat and others pointing to design rough edges — sentiments reflected in the Reddit thread responding to the PS Plus leak.

Sony has not confirmed the April PS Plus lineup, and official announcements from PlayStation typically appear via the console maker’s blog, social channels, or PlayStation Store updates around the start of each month. If the schedule in the leak is correct, PlayStation will name the full set of free titles on April 1, and the games would rotate into the PlayStation Store the following week for subscribers to claim.

Players hoping to see whether the leak is accurate should watch for Sony’s announcement on April 1. Until PlayStation publishes its official list, the Lords of the Fallen report should be treated as unconfirmed.
