The cardiac team at Lautoka Hospital, managed by Aspen Medical, has reached a significant milestone by successfully performing its first Intravascular Ultrasound (IVUS)-guided coronary stenting procedure in the hospital’s newly established Cardiac Catheterisation Lab. This groundbreaking procedure was led by a skilled team including Aspen Medical Consultant Cardiologist Dr. Bharatvansh Bali.

The surgery, which took place last week without any complications, allowed the patient to be discharged the following day in stable condition. IVUS is a state-of-the-art imaging technique that offers doctors a detailed view of the interior of coronary arteries through ultrasound technology, enabling them to accurately evaluate the extent of vessel narrowing. This precise assessment allows for tailored treatment, reducing the risk of future re-narrowing and enhancing long-term patient outcomes.

Dr. Bali highlighted the importance of this development for cardiac care in Fiji, stating, “This technology allows us to make better clinical decisions and deliver optimal care locally.” He emphasized that the new capability enables patients with complex heart diseases to receive sophisticated, evidence-based interventional procedures at Lautoka Hospital, eliminating the need for overseas travel.

This achievement not only signifies Aspen Medical’s commitment to advancing healthcare services in Fiji but also enhances the accessibility of advanced cardiac treatment for patients nationwide. The implementation of IVUS-guided stenting illustrates a promising future for cardiac care, offering hope for improved health outcomes within the region.
