The High Court in Lautoka has postponed the pretrial conference for Iliesa Tanoa Degei, who is charged with allegedly raping a Virgin Australia Airlines cabin crew member in Nadi during late 2024.

During the court proceedings, Justice Sunil Sharma received information indicating that while the pretrial checklist and agreed facts were submitted, the defense requested an additional seven days to review the documentation. They then sought an additional two weeks to confirm a date for the pretrial conference.

In light of these developments, Justice Sharma decided to adjourn the case, rescheduling the pretrial conference to April 15. The accused will remain on bail until the next court date.

This case has garnered significant attention, shining a light on important discussions surrounding safety and accountability in the airline industry. The judicial system’s careful approach to handling such sensitive matters is essential for ensuring justice while respecting the rights of all individuals involved. It underscores the pressing need for continuous improvement in safety protocols and support for victims in the aviation sector.
