The Lautoka City Council has completed a vital upgrade of the city’s bus terminal, marking a significant investment of $2.8 million fully funded through the council’s internal resources. This project represents the first major renovation of the terminal in over four decades.

At the inauguration ceremony on Monday, Taitusi Rasoki, chairperson of the Board of Special Administrators, confirmed that the total cost of the project amounted to $2,774,664, executed within the established budget and timeline. Rasoki expressed appreciation for both the consultant and contractor for their adherence to project deadlines.

“This upgrade was completed within the agreed timeframe and estimated cost, without incurring additional expenses for the council,” Rasoki stated. The enhancements of the terminal feature new concrete surfaces, fresh paint, and the installation of CCTV cameras designed to enhance safety and improve functionality for all users.

Recognizing the long-standing neglect of the facility, the new administrative team prioritized this essential project. Rasoki highlighted its importance by saying, “The upgrade of the deteriorating Lautoka bus station is a priority and a necessity.”

The project was executed in collaboration with West End Consulting PTE Ltd as the consulting firm and Hot Spring High Services PTE Ltd as the lead contractor. With this renovation, the Lautoka bus terminal is poised to offer a safer and more efficient experience for passengers, reflecting a positive advancement for the public transportation infrastructure in the city. This project not only revitalizes a critical community resource but also underscores the council’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life for its residents.
