Commuters at the newly-renovated Lautoka bus terminal will soon enjoy enhanced safety measures thanks to the installation of 24/7 CCTV surveillance, as confirmed by Taitusi Rasoki, chairperson of the Lautoka Board of Special Administrators. The ambitious $2.8 million upgrade of the terminal includes these security cameras, aimed at monitoring and deterring criminal activity in the area.
“The project encompasses CCTV installations strategically placed throughout the bus terminal to keep an eye on any potential criminal behavior,” Rasoki stated. This initiative is part of a broader strategy by the council and the Ministry of Local Government to ramp up security in the city, particularly in light of growing concerns about drug-related activities and other crimes.
Mr. Rasoki pointed out, “We are aware that criminal elements, especially those associated with drugs, are becoming more prevalent in Fiji,” emphasizing the importance of identifying hot spots to effectively enhance public safety. He underscored that the improvements align with government and ministerial goals to provide safe and functional infrastructure for the community.
