Diaz of Iximche Media, who will utilize storytelling, multimedia elements, and personal reflections to bring the event to life. Roderico Y. Diaz is an indigenous Maya Kaqchikel independent photojournalist and documentary filmmaker with a significant body of work that has been recognized by prestigious outlets such as the Associated Press and The Guardian. With a personal history as a survivor of the Guatemalan genocide (1960–1996), Diaz offers a profound perspective on migration, indigenous rights, and cultural preservation. He is also the recipient of the Rubenstein Library Digital Storytelling Award, showcasing his commitment to shedding light on the impacts of colonialism and the experiences of migrants in the U.S.
Alongside Rhyne, Diaz will deliver compelling stories and visuals that reflect the resilience and creativity of Latin American communities within Appalachia, encouraging deep reflection, dialogue, and a sense of connection among participants.
