KPMG Fiji has announced the retirement of Steven Nutley, a respected partner in its Audit & Assurance Group, after nine years of devoted service. Lisa Apted, managing partner of KPMG Fiji, acknowledged Nutley’s remarkable contributions to the firm and the wider accounting profession in Fiji.

Nutley, who has been based at the Suva office, played a vital role in mentoring both professional and support staff within the Audit and Risk teams. Apted commended his approachability, practical mindset, and understanding nature, which have not only built trust but also fostered significant professional development among many employees.

He joined KPMG Fiji as a partner on August 1, 2016, following a diverse career that began with KPMG in the UK. Nutley has also gained experience in New Zealand and Central Europe, notably taking on the role of managing partner in the Albanian practice before retiring in 2015. Remarkably, he returned from retirement to work in Fiji while also competing in ironman competitions during the early years of his tenure there.

Throughout his time, Nutley has managed an impressive roster of clients, including ANZ Bank, Bred Bank, and the Fiji National Provident Fund, representing various industries such as banking, telecommunications, and energy. Beyond client engagements, he has been actively involved with the Fiji Institute of Chartered Accountants, serving on the Standards Committee to improve the application of international standards in the profession.

Furthermore, Nutley has been a proponent of the global System of Quality Management (SoQM) across smaller practices, significantly enhancing practice standards throughout the accounting sector.

Nutley’s retirement from KPMG Fiji will take effect on December 31, 2025, marking a significant milestone in his professional journey. His legacy at KPMG and within the accounting community will be remembered as pivotal in raising standards and advancing professional practices in Fiji. The firm, along with its employees and clients, will surely miss his leadership and dedicated service.
