Kouri Richins returned to court in Park City on Wednesday for the eighth day of her murder trial, where significant testimony was revealed regarding her relationship with Robert Josh Grossman, her boyfriend both prior to and after her husband’s death. Grossman recounted their exchanges through text messages, some of which displayed a personal glimpse into their relationship just weeks before Eric Richins died.

During his testimony, Grossman read messages that highlighted the emotional connection between him and Kouri Richins. Just a month before her husband’s death, Richins expressed her desire for a future with Grossman, even suggesting a hypothetical marriage, stating, “If I was divorced right now and ask you to marry me tomorrow, you would?” to which Grossman replied affirmatively.

Their relationship, which began around 2020 while working on home renovation projects together, intertwined personal affection with complexities, evidenced by Richins acknowledging the “love triangle” situation they found themselves in. Despite challenges, she conveyed her feelings toward Grossman, noting, “I really enjoy my relationship and love for you,” but recognized it couldn’t last amid the ongoing dynamics.

In the days leading up to Eric Richins’ tragic death on March 4, 2022, their communication revealed plans to celebrate a significant personal achievement and conversations that hinted at Kouri’s emotional state. Grossman noted that they had intended to meet for brunch to mark the closing of a property deal but never anticipated the impending news of Eric Richins’ passing, which was delivered to Grossman in a text from Kouri stating, “Eric passed away.”

Testimony from Grossman continued with his recollections of a conversation approximately two weeks post Eric’s death. He described Kouri as exhibiting signs of grief more so than relief about her husband’s absence, revealing a deeply personal moment when she asked him if he had ever killed anyone.

Judicial proceedings also included testimonies from individuals involved in setting up Eric Richins’ life insurance policies. Notably, Kristal Bowman-Carter shared an encounter with Kouri on the day Eric died, depicting her anger upon learning about the implications of a trust set up for their home.

The trial faced interruptions when Kouri’s defense attorney, Wendy Lewis, called for a mistrial, expressing concerns over newly revealed evidence about a witness’s credibility that may have affected cross-examination.

As the proceedings continue, the insights from Grossman and others provide a complex portrait of Kouri Richins and her relationships, intertwining emotions, accusations, and the somber context of her husband’s death. This trial, now widely observed, offers a critical examination of personal narratives and the unfolding legal implications in a case that has drawn significant public interest.
