The Koroipita Model Town is set to undergo significant expansion, aiming to increase its housing capacity to 415 homes and support approximately 1,850 residents by 2029. Paul Forrest, the general manager of the Model Towns Charitable Trust, shared that the community currently comprises 331 occupied homes, serving a population of 1,525. A total of 361 houses have already been built, with plans to finish an additional 23 houses within the current year.
In the immediate future, the trust aims to complete the construction of 58 houses in the K5 stage over the next two years. Looking beyond that, Forrest indicated that they are contemplating further developments, which might involve introducing a new stage (K6) or possibly establishing another Model Town in a different location to fulfill the rising demand for affordable housing.
The necessity for housing is highlighted by the trust’s records, which show that 245 housing applications were submitted in 2025 alone, leading to a total of 1,908 applications since 2013. Forrest emphasized the importance of a thorough vetting process to ensure that assistance reaches those most in need, focusing on vulnerable families, especially those with young children keen to partake in the family advancement program offered by the trust.
Koroipita is distinguished by its community guidelines that emphasize education and personal development. Residents are encouraged to prioritize their children’s education, with various facilities available, including learning centers, counseling services, sports programs, a girls’ club, and eco-friendly initiatives. “Koroipita is not just social housing; it’s a university for life skills where dreams can become a reality,” Forrest noted, underlining the positive outcomes from the programs developed in collaboration with diverse organizations.
