The Koroipita Model Town is poised for considerable expansion, with plans to increase its housing capacity to 415 homes and accommodate approximately 1,850 residents by the year 2029. Paul Forrest, the general manager of the Model Towns Charitable Trust, reported that the community currently has 331 occupied homes serving a population of 1,525. To date, 361 houses have been constructed, and there are intentions to complete an additional 23 houses within this year.
The trust’s immediate goal is to finalize the construction of 58 houses within the K5 stage over the next two years. Looking ahead, Forrest has indicated that they are exploring options for further development, which may involve either the introduction of a new stage (K6) or potentially establishing another Model Town in a different location to meet the increasing demand for affordable housing.
The need for housing within the community is underscored by the trust’s records, which revealed that 245 housing applications were submitted in 2025 alone, contributing to a staggering total of 1,908 applications since 2013. Forrest mentioned that the vetting process is thorough to ensure that assistance reaches those most in need, prioritizing vulnerable families, particularly those with young children who are interested in participating in the family advancement program implemented by the trust.
