Olympic ice hockey champion Hilary Knight and speed skating world record holder Brittany Bowe have forged a bond that transcends their competitive sports. Having shared Olympic circles for years, their relationship deepened during the Beijing 2022 Olympics, where they began taking evening walks after long days of competition. This simple routine allowed them to unwind while cultivating a personal connection.
“It was just a really good way to get to know her, going for walks, getting out of our suites,” Knight reflected in a recent interview. The evening strolls soon evolved into shared meals and deeper conversations, culminating in a strong friendship. Bowe noted that she felt an immediate connection, adding, “I knew very quickly that this woman would be in my life for a long time.”
Bowe’s admiration for Knight extended beyond her prowess on the ice. The revelation of Knight’s softer, more genuine side caught Bowe’s attention, showcasing a depth of character that complements Knight’s fierce athletic persona. Conversely, Knight also recognized a unique bond, stating, “I knew immediately. I was like, this person’s the one.”
As they approach the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympics, both athletes, who collectively hold six Olympic medals and 36 world championship medals, confirmed this will be their final Olympic appearances. Throughout this journey, they have passionately supported one another, shifting from competitors to each other’s biggest fans. “I’ve been able to take my competitive hat off and just be a fan,” Bowe shared about watching Knight compete against the U.S.-Canada rivalry.
Living together has allowed them to understand the demands of their respective sports, nurturing a supportive partnership. “There’s no wasted energy on not understanding what the other does,” Knight explained, emphasizing their unique connection.
Looking to the future, both Knight and Bowe are committed to making a positive impact beyond their athletic careers, expressing their desire to continue uplifting one another as a power couple. As they gear up for their final Olympic chapter together, Knight recently advanced to the semi-finals with Team USA women’s ice hockey, while Bowe is preparing for her second race in the 1500m after a commendable fourth place in the 1000m.
The dynamic duo is not only a testament to hard work and dedication in their sports but also embodies the beauty of connection in the world of athletics. Their journey continues to inspire and show that relationships formed in high-pressure environments can flourish into something extraordinary.
