The New York Knicks are emerging as one of the key teams actively pursuing Giannis Antetokounmpo, according to league sources. The Milwaukee Bucks are reportedly seeking a premier young player or players, along with multiple valuable draft picks, in exchange for their star player, who is consistently ranked among the top three in the NBA. Currently, the Knicks find themselves at a disadvantage, as they lack the necessary assets to meet the Bucks’ demands.

To approach the Bucks’ asking price, the Knicks would likely have to consider trading away key players from their starting lineup, including OG Anunoby, Mikal Bridges, and possibly Karl-Anthony Towns. However, the trade value of Bridges and Towns is perceived to have diminished since the Knicks acquired them, presenting an additional challenge in any potential negotiations.

Questions remain about whether the Knicks, led by owner James Dolan, are willing to sacrifice their aspirations for a championship run this season to secure Antetokounmpo in the near future. While the Knicks have underperformed compared to expectations this season, they maintain a competitive outlook in the Eastern Conference, which is currently dominated by the young Detroit Pistons. Nonetheless, it appears that the ultimate title contender is likely to emerge from the Western Conference.

Experts believe that a more strategic approach for the Knicks could involve waiting until the summer to attempt a trade for Antetokounmpo. This would allow them to free up additional picks to strengthen their offer. However, the fear of losing out to other eager suitors in a summer bidding war might push the Knicks to act sooner than later.
