Killeen ISD Appoints Dr. King Davis as Superintendent

KILLEEN, Texas — In a decisive move, the Killeen Independent School District (KISD) Board of Trustees approved Dr. King Davis as the district’s new superintendent during a special meeting on Monday. Dr. Davis, who has held the position of interim superintendent since August 11, was previously named the sole finalist for the role on October 20.

The board’s decision was informed by extensive community input and the trustees’ discussions regarding the essential qualities for KISD’s next leader. They noted that Dr. Davis embodies the community’s consistent expectations for experience, stability, transparency, and a strong commitment to students and staff.

“Trustees firmly believe that Dr. Davis is the right leader at this pivotal moment for our district’s students, staff, and community,” stated Board President Brett Williams. “His diverse skill set positions him to drive positive change swiftly within our district. Dr. Davis has shown a genuine commitment to KISD and understands what is necessary to elevate our district’s academic achievements, allowing us to make a meaningful impact on our students.”

Dr. Davis brings over 30 years of public education experience to his new role, including a decade as a superintendent. His track record features strong leadership, significant academic progress, and effective community engagement. Most recently, he served as the superintendent of Sheldon ISD for eight years, during which he guided the district from an “Improvement Required” status to a consistent “B” rating while successfully eliminating an $11 million budget deficit in just one fiscal year. Prior to that, he held positions as superintendent in Wharton ISD, deputy superintendent in Everman ISD, and assistant superintendent in Crosby ISD, along with earlier roles in Mesquite, Corsicana, Dallas, and Lufkin ISDs.

Expressing his gratitude, Dr. Davis indicated that he feels honored to serve the Killeen ISD community permanently. “I am thankful for the trust the board has placed in me and humbled by the support from our staff and families,” he said. “While we face challenges ahead, I welcome them. Our district and community have the passion and potential to achieve remarkable things for our students, and I am committed to listening, learning, and leading alongside you, ensuring every student in Killeen ISD has the opportunity to flourish.”

This leadership change is met with optimism as the community looks forward to the positive changes Dr. Davis is poised to bring to the KISD environment.
