The Kadavu Stallions women’s rugby team achieved a notable victory, defeating Sinukakala Women 24–14 to claim the inaugural women’s title at the Yaro Chiefs 7s tournament held last Friday at Churchill Park. Coach Etuate Nauro commended his players for their hard work and commitment throughout the match, emphasizing that their team effort was key to their success.
In reflecting on the match, Nauro expressed appreciation for the competitive spirit of Sinukakala Women, who made a strong comeback in the second half. “It was all hard work and team effort that paid off,” he stated. He highlighted that the Stallions excelled under pressure, lifting their performance in the final moments of the game to secure the win.
The Stallions started strong, leading 12-0 at halftime, thanks to two tries by Arieta Tonono and a conversion by Mereani Qoro. The second half saw them extend their lead with another try from Maraia Musu. Sinukakala fought back, scoring two quick tries through Lusiana Tinai and Livia Tubailagi, both converted by Viniana Lewarara, bringing the score closer. However, Matelita Bai’s decisive try in the final minute clinched the victory for Kadavu.
This victory comes on the heels of the Kadavu Stallions’ impressive performances throughout the season, including a dominating 43-0 win over the Deuba Rebels at the Fiji Bitter Kadavu Sevens tournament, where their teamwork and execution shone through.
