The Judicial Services Commission (JSC) is poised to send its recommendations to the President today after convening an urgent meeting and holding discussions with the Attorney-General. The meeting focused on several critical issues concerning the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC). This included the February 2, 2026 ruling by Justice Dane Tuiqereqere, allegations made by a whistleblower on February 18, 2026, and the recent apprehension of citizen publisher Charlie Charters.

The JSC announced that its formal recommendations would be delivered to the Office of the President by the end of the business day. In the meantime, Charlie Charters has been in FICAC custody since Saturday and is scheduled to appear in court today. His initial caution interview took place at FICAC’s office yesterday morning but did not continue in the afternoon. Efforts to obtain a statement from FICAC prior to publication were unsuccessful.

The developments surrounding this case reflect a proactive approach from the JSC in addressing pertinent legal matters and highlight ongoing efforts to uphold integrity and accountability within the judicial system. The outcomes from today’s submissions may lead to critical decisions regarding transparency in governance and the judiciary’s response to corruption allegations.
