Joseph Baena claimed the INBA Iron Gladiator classic physique title on April 4, earning a pro card in only his second-ever bodybuilding show and extending a winning streak that began the previous weekend at the NPC Natural Colorado State competition. The 28-year-old son of Arnold Schwarzenegger posted photos from the INBA contest showing himself onstage with a sword and shield after being announced the champion at the annual drug-tested event.

Baena’s victory in California comes a week after he swept multiple novice and open divisions in Colorado. At the NPC Natural Colorado State event he took first place in the Men’s Open Body Heavy Weight class, Men’s Classic Physique True Novice and Men’s Classic Physique Novice—results he celebrated on Instagram with the caption “Mission Accomplished!” The follow-up INBA win underscores how quickly Baena has moved from debuting to earning a pro qualification.

“This year was the year that I said, ‘Enough being afraid. Enough overthinking. It’s time to commit,’” Baena told followers in an interview clip he shared on Instagram ahead of the Iron Gladiator, summing up his decision to pursue competitive bodybuilding this season. He also said he was “really excited to be a part of the INBA and to experience this wonderful program,” noting the federation’s drug-tested format.

Baena’s path into fitness has been gradual rather than immediate. He swam competitively as a child and only began lifting weights in his junior year of college, he has said, later recounting that he was “chubby” in high school and was once cut from basketball and soccer teams. Those early setbacks, he told media previously, helped shape his ambition to change his physique and commit to training.

Part of Baena’s preparation has involved working with his father at Gold’s Gym in Venice Beach, California. Photos and clips from their sessions showed Schwarzenegger—widely regarded as one of the sport’s greatest competitors—coaching his son on poses and stage presence. The elder Schwarzenegger, now 78, has remained a visible figure in Baena’s early competitive development.

Baena shared his trophy-stage images and captioned the INBA shots, “Your new INBA Iron Gladiator Classic Physique Champion,” marking the milestone publicly as he transitions from local novice contests to pro-level competition. With two different federation victories in consecutive weekends, Baena’s rapid rise will be watched closely by fans interested in how quickly he advances through the professional ranks.
