Jets land AD Mitchell in high-stakes trade

Before joining the New York Jets, wide receiver AD Mitchell was on the radar of the Cleveland Browns, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Mitchell garnered significant interest leading up to the trade deadline, and the Browns were reportedly preparing to finalize a trade for him. The Indianapolis Colts were set to receive a late-round draft pick in return for Mitchell.

Ultimately, the Jets acquired Mitchell as part of a larger trade that included two first-round draft picks from the Colts. Reflecting on the transition, Mitchell expressed relief at not learning of the trade through social media. “I’m happy I didn’t find out through social media. I had my conversation with the GM and the head coach, and I was able to say my goodbyes to everybody. It was a very emotional day, but I’m excited to be here now,” he stated during his introductory press conference with the Jets.

Mitchell, a second-year player who was selected in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, has faced challenges with consistency during his brief career. Nevertheless, his potential is evident. With an impressive combination of size, speed, and sharp route-running, he is capable of making plays at all levels of the field. Over the course of 25 games, including eight starts, Mitchell has caught 32 passes for 464 yards.

As he embarks on this new chapter with the Jets, there is optimism that Mitchell’s skills will flourish in the team’s system, providing the Jets with a valuable asset in their offensive lineup. The excitement surrounding him could lead to a significant positive impact as he continues to develop as an NFL player.
