For almost a century, every NFL team could proudly claim at least one interception in each season since the league began tracking the statistic in 1933. That streak has now been broken by the New York Jets, who finished the 2025 season without a single interception in their last 17 games.
The Jets faced their final opportunity to avoid this unwanted record on Sunday in their Week 18 matchup against the Buffalo Bills. However, even with the advantage of going up against backup quarterback Mitchell Trubisky instead of reigning MVP Josh Allen, New York failed to capitalize.
In a season marred by defensive shortcomings, the Jets recorded the fewest interceptions in the league. Other teams, such as the Dallas Cowboys, San Francisco 49ers, and Tennessee Titans, managed to secure six interceptions each, highlighting the stark contrast to the Jets’ performance.
Under the leadership of first-year head coach Aaron Glenn, New York struggled severely, finishing near the bottom of the league in several defensive categories, including sacks and touchdowns allowed, both in the passing and rushing game.
Their disappointing 35-8 loss to the Bills capped off a challenging season, leaving the Jets with a grim 3-14 record. This result not only secured them the No. 2 overall pick in the upcoming 2026 NFL Draft but also extended their playoff drought to 15 consecutive seasons, the longest such streak in the league currently.
While the Jets’ performance this season was disheartening, the team has an opportunity to rebuild and improve as they look towards the draft in April. With the right strategies and player acquisitions, hope remains for a brighter future as the franchise aims to turn the page on this challenging chapter.
