New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd was the victim of a shooting in Midtown Manhattan early Sunday morning, leaving him in critical condition. The incident occurred around 2 a.m. ET on West 38th Street near Seventh Avenue, according to reports from the New York Post. Boyd, 29, has been taken to Bellevue Hospital where he is reportedly “clinging to life.”

Authorities are still investigating the shooting, and as of now, no arrests have been made.

This season marked Boyd’s first with the Jets; however, his tenure was cut short after sustaining a shoulder injury during a preseason game on August 2, which ruled him out for the remainder of the year. Before joining the Jets, Boyd played four seasons with the Minnesota Vikings and had stints with the Arizona Cardinals and the Houston Texans. Last season, he participated in all 17 games for the Texans, making eight tackles and recovering a fumble.

Boyd was signed by the Jets to compete for a cornerback and special teams position. His tragic situation serves as a stark reminder of the dangers that can lurk even in vibrant urban settings. The entire Jets organization is likely holding hope for Boyd’s recovery during this challenging time.
