The Government of Japan, in collaboration with Fiji’s Ministry of i-Taukei Affairs, has inaugurated new dormitory facilities and classrooms at the Centre for Appropriate Technology and Development in Nadave, a venture valued at over one million dollars. This development is pivotal for the institution, meeting the urgent demand for enhanced infrastructure to accommodate the rising number of students.
Minister for i-Taukei Affairs, Ifireimi Vasu, highlighted the importance of this development in alleviating Fiji’s skills shortage. The new facilities are anticipated to provide greater opportunities for practical training, crucial for students transitioning into the workforce.
Japan’s Ambassador to Fiji, Rokuichiro Michii, explained that this investment is a strategic initiative to boost educational access at the grassroots level, emphasizing Japan’s dedication to advancing education in Fiji. The newly constructed facilities will initially benefit 164 students, with a growing number expected to enroll.
The institution is set to hold a graduation ceremony for students who have completed courses in engineering, plumbing, and other vocational fields, illustrating the tangible advantages of the infrastructure improvements. This project is part of an ongoing collaboration between Japan and Fiji, mirroring earlier Japanese-supported projects in the region that have fortified educational structures and opportunities.
