Cynthia Vallina, an alumna of Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP), has made a significant contribution to support the future of students at her alma mater. The 1982 political science graduate has donated $100,000 aimed at enhancing study abroad opportunities, bolstering the political science program, and supporting IUP’s women’s rugby club. This generous gift contributes to Impact 150, a comprehensive $150 million fundraising initiative by the university.

Vallina, who recently retired after an impressive 32-year career in the Office of Management and Budget, specialized in national energy, sustainability, and procurement initiatives. She attributes much of her career success to IUP, particularly crediting study abroad and internship opportunities that helped lay the foundation for her professional journey.

In recognition of her contributions to the university, Vallina was inducted into the IUP Rugby Hall of Fame in 2023 for her role in establishing the first women’s rugby club at IUP in 1979. With her donation, she aims to inspire students to aim high and to foster a spirit of giving back to the institution that played a crucial role in shaping her future. Vallina’s investment exemplifies a commitment to empowering students and enriching their educational experiences at IUP, reinforcing the impact that alumni can have within their communities.
