IPACS 2025 in Kupang Sparks Pacific Creative Economy and Cultural Ties

The Indonesia–Pacific Cultural Synergy (IPACS) 2025 held in Kupang was more than just a forum for the Solomon Islands; it represented a vibrant gathering of cultural expression, creativity, and regional collaboration. Minister for Tourism, Choylin Yim-Douglas, described the three-day event as “rewarding, informative, inspiring, and wonderfully entertaining.” Participants enjoyed lively performances and memorable evenings filled with dance.

Yim-Douglas reflected on the significant potential of a creative economy, emphasizing the essential role of cultural diplomacy in driving growth and innovation, as well as fortifying cultural industries within the region. She emphasized that any collaborative efforts need to be founded on mutual respect and careful deliberation.

The Solomon Islands plans to carefully review the proposed Joint Ministers’ Statement before presenting it to Cabinet, ensuring that any commitments made are in line with national priorities. Despite this cautious approach, Yim-Douglas expressed a strong desire to move forward with collaborations that foster connections between Pacific communities and their Indonesian counterparts.

The minister also acknowledged the invaluable support provided by the Indonesian government and people during the forum. “We are grateful for your hospitality and generosity, and for facilitating this enriching cultural exchange,” she stated, recognizing how these efforts have not only strengthened their cultural sector but also inspired all participants.

Throughout the event, the Solomon Islands delegation engaged deeply in cultural exchanges, technical sessions, and bilateral discussions. These activities focused on exploring opportunities to expand the creative economy, enhance cultural industries, and reinforce regional ties. The experiences gained during IPACS 2025 underscored the significance of cultural diplomacy in crafting a resilient and collaborative Pacific.

This positive engagement showcases the hope and potential for deepening connections across the Pacific, paving the way for continued collaboration and mutual understanding among nations.
