A former radio personality, Tej Ram Prem, has been honored with the Sanatan Ratna award during the Diwali Mela in Liverpool, Sydney, hosted by Sanatan Australia. The recognition highlights Prem’s substantial contributions to radio and cultural programming, particularly in the Hindustani language.

Before moving to Sydney in 2000, Prem had an illustrious career with the Fijian Broadcasting Corporation, where he started as a creative copywriter and advanced to various significant roles, including producer, broadcaster, and director of Hindi news and current affairs. His talent as a creative writer and producer has left a lasting impact, with his short stories and radio dramas still broadcast on Fijian radio today.

Currently residing in Sydney with his family, Prem has diversified his career as a yoga instructor and remains actively involved in community initiatives, including his participation in the Liverpool Seniors Society. His journey not only celebrates his personal achievements but also reflects the dedicated spirit of the Indo-Fijian community in Australia, which continues to thrive and contribute to cultural events that unite people through shared heritage.

Prem’s recognition serves as an inspiring reminder of the importance of preserving cultural narratives and supporting community ties, particularly through initiatives such as the Sanatan Ratna award. This award not only honors individual accomplishments but also reinforces the collective pride of the Indo-Fijian diaspora in Australia.
