India’s Union Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Nimuben Bambhaniya, has emphasized the strengthening of ties between India and Fiji following productive discussions with Fiji’s agricultural leadership in New Delhi. In her statement, Bambhaniya expressed her delight at meeting with Fiji’s Minister for Agriculture and Waterways, Tomasi Tunabuna, and the Minister for Multi-Ethnic Affairs and Sugar Industry, Charan Jeath Singh. The conversation centered around deepening collaboration in agriculture and enhancing food security.

The discussions highlighted several key areas, including the modernization of sugar mills, capacity building, agricultural development, and the establishment of state-of-the-art storage facilities, all crucial for bolstering food security. Bambhaniya noted that these engagements reflect the strong cultural and economic bonds between India and Fiji.

The talks marked a shared commitment between both nations to foster sustainable agricultural growth and improve the resilience of food systems, particularly in the important sugar sector, which plays a crucial role in both economies.

Additionally, Bambhaniya participated in Indusfood 2026, a prominent international food and beverage exhibition regarded as Asia’s leading trade platform. She remarked that the exhibition offered valuable prospects for interaction among governments, businesses, and investors.

“Indusfood serves as an important international platform for business engagement, policy dialogue, and the development of long-term partnerships in food and agriculture,” Bambhaniya stated.

India and Fiji enjoy a rich history of cultural and people-to-people connections, and both governments are dedicated to enhancing collaboration in agriculture, trade, and sustainable development moving forward. This cooperation not only aims to strengthen ties but also seeks to ensure food security and sustainable growth for the future.
