The IHG Fiji Hotels group, which encompasses the InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa, Grand Pacific Hotel, and Holiday Inn Suva, successfully raised FJ$15,000 through its annual Movember campaign. This vital funding will be directed to Lifeline Fiji, bolstering their efforts to improve suicide prevention and mental health services throughout the country.
The month-long Movember initiative effectively brought together hotel staff and guests through a range of engaging activities that encouraged meaningful conversations around men’s health and well-being. Participants took part in fun challenges such as “Fake Moustaches” and the inventive “Reverse Movember Beard-to-Moustache Challenge,” leveraging humor to foster dialogue and reduce the stigma linked to mental health issues.
Guests also contributed to the fundraising efforts by indulging in themed cocktails, spa specials, and desserts, as well as participating in the “Cup of Kindness” coffee initiative. These activities not only raised funds but also highlighted the importance of discussions surrounding men’s health.
Lifeline Fiji played an essential role in the campaign by providing valuable educational resources along with access to their 24-hour crisis line, counseling services, and resilience programs. This collaboration was instrumental in ensuring participants received relevant guidance on mental well-being and learned how to seek help effectively.
Lachlan Walker, the Regional General Manager for Fiji and the Pacific at IHG Hotels & Resorts, praised his teams for their unwavering commitment to the cause. He emphasized how the initiative aligns with IHG’s focus on fostering psychological safety and emotional support within the workplace. This dedication is reflected in IHG’s recent accolade as a Global Great Place to Work® Accredited organization for 2025.
Furthermore, Jeremaia Merekula, Director of Lifeline Fiji, expressed his appreciation for the persistent support from the hotels, stating that campaigns like Movember play a crucial role in promoting early intervention and alleviating the stigma surrounding mental distress. The raised FJ$15,000 will significantly enhance Lifeline Fiji’s crisis response, counseling, and community outreach initiatives, showcasing the generosity of guests and the dedication of hotel staff.
This collaborative endeavor highlights a growing commitment to mental health awareness, creating a supportive atmosphere for individuals seeking assistance. The positive impact of such initiatives not only benefits those in need but also fosters a culture of openness and compassion within the community.
