Iga Świątek has made her presence felt on Stadium 2 court at Indian Wells, arriving at 1:00 PM Polish time right after Victoria Mboko and Donna Vekic. Accompanied by her key team members, including coach Wim Fissette, sports psychologist Daria Abramowicz, and sparring partner Tomasz Moczek, Świątek kicked off her preparations with a brief warm-up session focused on motor skills alongside her physical training coach. Shortly thereafter, she showcased her skills in practice with her training partner, marking a significant step towards regaining her competitive edge.

As the world’s second-ranked player, Świątek aims to regain optimal form after a lengthier break. Her last competitive match took place on February 12 in Doha, where she faced Maria Sakkari in the quarterfinals, ultimately falling 2:6, 6:4, 5:7. Following this defeat, she opted out of the Dubai tournament to rest and ensure her best preparation for the challenges at Indian Wells.

In the previous year, Świątek competed in both the UAE and the US tournaments, where young Russian talent Mirra Andriejeva emerged as a formidable adversary. The two met in the quarterfinals at Dubai, where Andriejeva, still shy of 18, managed to defeat Świątek convincingly with a score of 6:3, 6:3. Just days later, Andriejeva captured her first WTA 1000 title, defeating Clara Tauson in the finals.

Only 23 days later, they crossed paths again at Indian Wells, where Świątek sought revenge for her earlier defeat. However, Andriejeva again proved too strong, triumphing in a tightly contested match with a scoreline of 6:7 (1), 6:1, 3:6, allowing her to take home another title and marking a milestone in her burgeoning career.

Now, the six-time Grand Slam champion has set her sights on winning her third title in Indian Wells, having previously claimed victory in 2022 and 2024. Świątek has participated in this tournament six times, with only three losses in the main draw against notable players like Jelena Ostapenko, Elena Rybakina, and, most recently, Andriejeva.

The draw for this year’s tournament will take place overnight from Monday to Tuesday, determining when Świątek might face Andriejeva again. Her opening match is scheduled for Friday or Saturday, local time. Fans can look forward to following her journey and updates on Interia Sport.

With determination and a supportive team, Iga Świątek is poised for another exciting chapter at Indian Wells, ready to showcase her skills on a grand stage.
