As ABC prepares to launch season 24 of “American Idol,” judges Luke Bryan, Carrie Underwood, and Lionel Richie have shared some lighthearted social media promotions that tie into the creative theme of “Idol University” for the 2026 season. The auditions, along with a revamped version of Hollywood Week, were filmed at Belmont University in Nashville, bringing a fresh backdrop to the beloved competition.

Beginning January 10, the judges showcased their personal essentials by “emptying their backpacks” in playful posts on social media, offering fans an engaging glimpse into their daily lives and unique personalities.

Carrie Underwood, affectionately dubbed the “snack queen” by the “Idol” crew, revealed that her backpack was filled with a variety of healthy snacks, including bars, celery sticks, carrots, and cherry tomatoes, presumably all sourced from her Nashville farm. Playfully starting with a small container of mints, she humorously stated, “Don’t want to scare away Luke and Lionel!” Along with her snacks, Underwood displayed her crochet tools, explaining that they keep her occupied during hair and makeup sessions. She also emphasized the importance of having a notebook and pen handy to capture her reflections on contestants, as well as potential song ideas, noting that “inspiration is everywhere.”

Luke Bryan showcased a more diverse assortment of items when he emptied his backpack, quipping, “Pretty much my life right there.” His belongings included a bag of golf balls, highlighting his burgeoning passion for golf. However, his love for fishing remains steadfast, as indicated by the bass fishing lures and plastic worms he carried. Additionally, he displayed a guitar strap, tuner, and foot pedal, hinting at his frequent jam sessions. Bryan also pulled out a Ziploc bag filled with popcorn, calling it his “favorite snack,” along with a can of beer.

Lionel Richie’s backpack contained signature items that reflected his cool demeanor. He revealed a pair of stylish sunglasses and several music-related tools, such as a portable keyboard and an “old-school metronome” to keep the rhythm. Richie emphasized the importance of staying hydrated with a water bottle and noted with a smile that he also had a copy of his own memoir, “Truly,” tucked inside.

Fans can look forward to seeing these charismatic judges and host Ryan Seacrest back on screen when “American Idol” premieres its new season on January 26 at 8 p.m. Eastern time, promising another exciting year filled with talent and creativity.
