NASHVILLE, Tenn. – In the aftermath of a historic ice storm that wreaked havoc across Middle Tennessee, several school districts are extending closures into their second week due to ongoing power outages and infrastructure damage. Thousands remain without electricity, a situation primarily reported by the Nashville Electric Service.

While many districts are still closed, Metro Nashville Public Schools (MNPS) has announced that classes will resume on Tuesday. In a bid to facilitate a smoother transition back to school, MNPS stated that East Magnet Middle School will temporarily share space with East Nashville Magnet High School for the week. This decision follows the restoration of power, which was completed late Sunday, although the middle school experienced damage from a broken pipe.

“To ensure that we are fully prepared for students and staff, we will utilize co-location for the remainder of the week,” MNPS communicated, adding that normal school schedules will be maintained, and student pick-up and drop-off will now occur at the high school, located on the same campus.
