Hurricane Rally: Miami Dominates Wake Forest and Eyes ACC Title

In Miami Gardens, Florida, the No. 11 Miami Hurricanes showcased their prowess with a decisive 42-14 victory over Wake Forest, thanks in large part to quarterback Cam Ward’s outstanding performance. Ward threw for 280 yards, connecting with Jacolby George for two touchdowns, and also rushed for a score. Miami’s defense made a notable mark as well, with Mishael Powell returning an interception 76 yards for a touchdown.

Following this win, Miami improved their record to 10-1 and 6-1 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. They are now one victory away from clinching a spot in the ACC title game, which they can secure with a win against Syracuse next weekend. SMU has already secured another spot in the championship game by defeating Virginia 33-7.

Despite Ward’s stellar performance and setting new single-season records for passing yards and completions—previously held by Hurricane legend Bernie Kosar for 40 years—Wake Forest managed to stay competitive. They were tied at 14-14 as they entered the fourth quarter. However, Miami’s explosive fourth-quarter rally saw them score 22 points, sealing the game firmly in their favor. Wake Forest’s standout players included Demond Claiborne, who returned a kickoff for a touchdown and rushed for a total of 62 yards.

Miami’s coach, Mario Cristobal, emphasized the importance of the team’s defensive performance after a rocky start. He noted that the ensuing defense after the initial drive was a testament to what the Hurricanes should embody.

Additionally, the game was marked by a tribute to the late Don Bosseler, a Miami All-American and College Football Hall of Famer, as the team wore “DB 40” decals on their helmets in his memory.

In summary, Miami’s win against Wake Forest not only showcased their offensive talent led by Ward but also highlighted their defensive capabilities, especially as they gear up for a critical final game of the season. The performance sends a hopeful message about the team’s potential as they pursue a spot in the ACC championship. It’s encouraging to see Miami returning to form, reflecting a promising future for Hurricane football.
