Hugh Jackman Teases Possible Wolverine Return to the MCU

Hugh Jackman has playfully dodged questions regarding his potential return as Wolverine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), following the massive success of last year’s “Deadpool & Wolverine.” Fans are eagerly anticipating confirmation that the celebrated actor will reprise his iconic role in either next year’s “Avengers: Doomsday” or the much-anticipated “Avengers: Secret Wars” slated for 2027. During an appearance on “The Graham Norton Show,” Jackman made it clear that he will no longer use the word “never” when discussing his role as Wolverine.

Initially, Jackman declared his departure from the role after the critically acclaimed “Logan” in 2017. However, his decision to appear in “Deadpool 3” turned out to be a wise choice, as “Deadpool & Wolverine” became the highest-grossing R-rated film, earning over $1 billion worldwide.

The prospect of Jackman and other beloved characters from the X-Men universe not being part of “Doomsday” or “Secret Wars” appears increasingly unlikely. When Norton inquired if Jackman would don the claws again, Jackman teased, “Maybe. I am never saying ‘never’ ever again.” He humorously acknowledged that while he once meant it when he said “never,” circumstances have evidently changed.

In a light-hearted exchange, when asked if Marvel could digitally enhance his appearance by using AI, Jackman quipped, “A hundred percent. I think I’ve done 10 films, so I think they’ve got enough in there!”

Ryan Reynolds, Jackman’s co-star, is also said to be back as Deadpool, further fueling speculation of the characters crossing paths with the Avengers. The cast of “Avengers: Doomsday” features several veteran X-Men actors, including Kelsey Grammer, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, and James Marsden, suggesting a substantial integration of X-Men into the MCU’s fabric. Notably, Grammer reprises his role as Beast, while Stewart re-emerges as Professor X, with the possibility of a significant plotline linking both groups.

Although neither Jackman nor Reynolds has been officially listed among the confirmed cast members, Marvel’s ongoing announcements indicate that more details are forthcoming. The potential for a cameo or a crucial role for these beloved characters seems promising, possibly paving the way for future developments in the MCU, including the upcoming X-Men films.

Overall, the anticipation for the MCU’s future continues to swell, hinting at an exciting convergence of storylines that fans have long hoped for. The return of Wolverine and Deadpool promises to reignite the vibrant legacy of these characters, capturing the imaginations of audiences across the globe.
