UFC President Dana White has acknowledged the pivotal role that former President Donald Trump has played in raising the profile of the mixed martial arts organization, especially as it prepares to host an unprecedented event on the White House South Lawn. In a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal, White emphasized his focus on delivering an exceptional live event as part of Trump’s celebrations for America’s 250th birthday on June 14, which also marks Trump’s 80th birthday.

This unique cage match has even influenced international scheduling, leading France to push back its G7 summit to avoid a direct clash with the event. White expressed excitement about bringing UFC to such a significant venue, recalling how Trump expressed interest in the sport back when the UFC was purchased in 2001, aiming to host matches at his now-defunct Taj Mahal casino in Atlantic City.

In discussing the upcoming event, White praised Trump as a dedicated fight fan and characterized him as an embodiment of resilience. He articulated his admiration for Trump, stating, “If you ever wanted to look up what the definition of a fighter is, that guy’s it.” White also highlighted the importance of fighting in American culture, suggesting that the sport aligns with the values of freedom and opportunity that America represents.

While the full lineup of fighters for the event has yet to be announced, Trump mentioned there could be “eight or nine championship fights” featured. Anticipation is high, with estimates suggesting that around 5,000 attendees will fill the lawn and an additional 85,000 might gather at The Ellipse nearby, making it a monumental occasion for fight fans.

White remains optimistic that political ties will not deter fighters from participating, downplaying concerns about the potential implications of hosting the UFC at the White House. His comments underscore a commitment to the sport and its relevance within the broader cultural landscape, aiming to celebrate both the athletes and the enduring spirit of competition.
