With its popularity continuing to soar, the hockey romance series Heated Rivalry is set to return for a second season. This LGBTQ-focused narrative, based on Rachel Reid’s beloved Game Changers book series, delves into the exhilarating and secretive relationship between rival hockey superstars Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov. The show, created by Jacob Tierney of Letterkenny fame, has captured the hearts of viewers who have passionately shared their enthusiasm on social media.
The story centers around Shane Hollander, portrayed by Hudson Williams, a talented Canadian player and captain of the Montreal Metros. Before his role in Heated Rivalry, Williams showcased his multifaceted creativity through writing, producing, and directing several short films, along with guest appearances in TV shows like Allegiance. During an interview, he revealed his approach to embodying Shane, emphasizing his desire for physical expression even in moments of restraint.
Connor Storrie takes on the role of Ilya Rozanov, the captain of the Boston Raiders and a Russian hockey player. Storrie, who previously made headlines in Joker: Folie à Deux, reflected on the show’s unexpected rise in notoriety after realizing the widespread popularity it garnered beyond their social media bubbles.
The cast also features François Arnaud as Scott Hunter, a closeted American player, who has credited intimacy coordinator Chala Hunter for crafting a respectful environment for vulnerable moments in the series. Arnaud noted that their intimate scenes were designed to reflect themes of liberation and joy. Robbie G.K. co-stars as Kip Grady, a juice shop barista romantically involved with Scott, while Callan Potter plays Hayden Pike, Shane’s close friend and teammate.
Veteran actress Christina Chang portrays Yuna Hollander, Shane’s mother, and Dylan Walsh plays David Hollander, Shane’s father. Kolton Stewart takes on the role of Carter Vaughn, Scott’s best friend, and Sophie Nélisse stars as Rose Landry, a Canadian actress who becomes romantically linked to Shane. Tierney revealed that Rose’s character drew inspiration from actress Jennifer Lawrence, linking her to the local Montreal culture.
Rounding out the ensemble is Ksenia Daniela Kharlamova as Svetlana Vetrova, Ilya’s longtime friend and occasional lover. As the series heads into its next chapter, fans can look forward to more gripping narratives and deeper explorations of the characters’ lives both on and off the ice, showcasing the importance of love and acceptance in the sporting world.
