Composer Jeff Morrow, known for his work on films and shows like Snow White, A Christmas Story Christmas, and Olaf’s Frozen Adventure, is teaming up once again with directors Judd Apatow and Michael Bonfiglio for the new HBO documentary titled Mel Brooks: The 99 Year Old Man!. This two-part documentary delves into the rich life and career of the iconic filmmaker, writer, and performer, Mel Brooks.
The documentary chronicles Brooks’ journey from his early sketches to his groundbreaking films and celebrated Broadway productions, which include classics such as Blazing Saddles, The Producers, Young Frankenstein, and Spaceballs. It reveals how Brooks transformed his personal struggles, including postwar trauma, into sharp satire that not only entertained but redefined American comedy. Apatow and Bonfiglio, who are also executive producers of the documentary alongside Kevin Salter, Nancy Abraham, Lisa Heller, and senior producer Anna Klein, aim to showcase the profound impact Brooks has had on the comedy landscape.
Morrow has a history of successful collaborations with Apatow and Bonfiglio, having worked on projects like Who Are You, Charlie Brown?, George Carlin’s American Dream, and Stormy, among others. The anticipated premiere of Mel Brooks: The 99 Year Old Man! is scheduled for January 22 and 23 on HBO, with streaming available on HBO Max.
Adding to his impressive portfolio, Morrow’s recent projects also include Maude Apatow’s feature directorial debut, Poetic License, which premiered at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival and has secured a theatrical release with Row K Entertainment set for May 15, 2026. This highlights Morrow’s continuing involvement in influential and meaningful cinematic works, ensuring his presence is felt in both comedy and dramatic storytelling.
