Lewis Hamilton has embarked on a challenging journey in his inaugural season with Ferrari following his departure from Mercedes after 11 years. The 40-year-old driver is currently navigating a tough season, sitting sixth in the standings, a situation he finds disheartening as he grapples with the complexities of adapting to a new team.
Hamilton expressed his frustrations, stating, “There’s just been so much to do and so much to learn. It’s definitely tough when we’re all working for something and then you fall back.” He likened the experience to climbing a mountain only to slip back down, emphasizing the importance of resilience and perseverance. “I’ve backed this team 100% and I back myself 100%. I know that when we get things right, it’s going to be amazing,” he added, exuding optimism about future successes.
Despite facing difficulties, Hamilton has shown glimpses of his potential, securing a victory in the sprint race during the season’s second grand prix in China. However, he has yet to achieve a podium finish this season, in contrast to his teammate Charles Leclerc, who has already celebrated seven podiums. Nonetheless, Hamilton remains enthusiastic about representing Ferrari. “I still pinch myself that I’m in red, that I get to drive a Ferrari,” he said, acknowledging the culture and potential of the iconic team.
Recognizing the challenges of transitioning to a new organization, Hamilton understands that significant changes take time. “This is a huge thing. It’s a huge organization. There are so many moving parts. You can’t fix it in the click of a finger,” he noted, indicating his commitment to the long-term vision for Ferrari.
Charles Leclerc echoed the team’s desire for improvement, sharing that John Elkann, the chairman of Ferrari, reached out to convey a positive message about the team’s focus on progress. “I have always tried my best. I will try to do better. That is the priority in the team,” Leclerc stated, aligning with Hamilton’s outlook as they strive for better results.
This season may be fraught with challenges for Hamilton, but his unwavering conviction and resilience serve as a testament to his commitment to Ferrari, fostering hope for future victories and a successful turnaround.
